Sathyavolu Ramalingeswara Temple History
This temple was built by Badami Chalukyas of Chola dynasty during 6th - 7th Century A.D. Rich carvings on the temple walls shows this fine skills of Chola Kings. There is a footprint at the entrance of the temple, devotees used to worship this footprint treating it as the Lord's impression. This temple was partly damaged during the Muslim rulers invasion. Entrance Mantap is of star shape which Cholas used to follow in their constructions. It is said that Sage Satya Rishi performed penance here for the Lord so the place called by Satyavolu. Later the temple was raised by Chola Kings.
As per the Legends, this Idol was installed by the King Janamejaya, Son of Parikshit and Great Grand Son of Pandava King Arjuna. Janameya to get rid of Sarpa Dosha had installed Siva Lingas in the South and Satyavolu Temple is one among them.
