Kailasanathar Temple Kanchipuram History

Kailasanathar Temple Kanchipuram History

This temple construction was started by Rajasimha from Pallava dynasty in 685 A.D. Later, this was completed by his son Mahendra Varma III during 705 A.D . This temple is known for its Dravidian style with amazing sculptures. The inner courtyard of Kailasanathar temple was built by Rajaraja Chola during 12th century A.D. There are 58 Siva temples within the temple complex, each with different style. One of the specialties of this temple is the sand stone compound. This temple is very much famous for outstanding limestone art and sculpture.

Interesting things

There is a passage within the temple, where main shrine is, this passage connects from one side to another side in a circle along with the Siva linga. A devotee who walks through this passage with a belief that "some good may happen within seven days in my life" will be blessed with good fortune. Another belief is that one will attain salvation one who pass through this passage. The main lingam has got 16 faces, inner circle of prakaram meant for birth and death. That has been carved in such a way only few with slim personalities  may get in through and come out.

Goddess Kamakshi performed a strict penance for Lord siva, by standing on a single leg under a mango tree beside Ve
gavathi river. Kamakshi Devi had passed through many tests created by Siva. To test the quality of the penance, Lord Siva sent fire on her, she then sought help from her brother Vishnu. Vishnu showered Moon rays to cool the fire.
Then, Lord Siva sent Ganga to disrupt the penance. Goddess Kamakshi requested Ganga not to harm. On Kamakshi's request Ganga remained calm.
Goddess Kamakshi made Siva Linga out Earth and continued with her penance for many years. Impressed by the penance, Lord Siva married Goddess Kamakshi.

Tirupati Balaji Temple History

Tirupati Balaji Temple History

Tirupati Balaji Temple History as stated in Bhavishyottara purana

Once a number of Rishis (sages) assembled on the bank of the Ganga and got things ready to perform Yajna. Narada came to them and asked them which god they intended to please by performing the sacrifice. The Rishis were nonplussed and requested the sage, Bhrigu, to solve the problem. That sage undertook to solve the problem by examining the three chief divinities. He first went to Brahma and found him busy chanting the Vedas with one mouth, uttering Narayana Mantra with another and looking at Vani with the third face. He took no notice of Bhrigu. Then the sage went to the abode of Siva. There again he found Siva fully absorbed in sporting with his consort and not taking notice of Bhrigu's arrival and presence. From here Bhrigu went to Vaikunta and found Vishnu similarly engaged in amours with Lakshmi. Disgusted with this, Bhrigu kicked Vishnu on his Chest (Vaksha Sthala). Vishnu immediately got up, apologized Rishi for not noticing.  Vishnu knows that the Sage is impulsive due to the presence of third eye in his foot. Vishnu started pleasing sage by massaging Bhirgu's foot and enquired if it had been injured, while sage was in different  he then pluck third eye out. Sage Bhrigu then realized his mistake and apologized for his acts and left Vaikunta seeking blessings from Vishnu.
Lakshmi was angered because Bhrigu kicked the spot which was her  favorite resort on the bosom of the Lord and went away to Karavirapura or Kolhapur to stay there, leaving Vishnu. Unable to bear the solitude, Vishnu left Vaikunta and wandered about. In course of time he came to Seshachala, found it sufficiently interesting and settled down on the mountain in an ant-hill on the bank of the Swamy Pushkarini.

Thirupampuram Rahu Ketu Temple

Thirupampuram Rahu Ketu Temple History

It is said that many Naga kings, including Adisesha ( Vishnu's couch), Takshaka and Karkotaka worshiped Siva at this place, thus the Lord Siva here called by Thirunageswaram.
Once it happened that, when Vinayaka offering prayers to Lord Siva, Naga which lies around the neck of Lord Siva felt proud as if Vinayaka was worshiping him too, knowing this Lord Siva cursed Naga's family to lose their Spiritual powers.
In order to regain their spiritual powers, Adisesha along with other serpents offered prayers to the Siva Idols which were at the three different places at three different timings. In the early hours, pooja was offered to the Siva Idol at Kudanthai, at noon it was at Thirunageswaram and in the evening it was at Thirupampuram. Lord Siva was pleased with their sincere prayers and blessed them all with their spiritual powers.

Thirupampuram Rahu Ketu Temple

Lord Siva worshiped as Pampunathar and Goddess Parvathi is depicted as Piraisoodi Amman. This temple has one main Gopuram at the front. There is a sacred tree called by Vanni Tree, where couples used to tie ropes and other materials for children. Adhisesha Theertham (Temple tank) which is at the entrance was built by Adhisesha while doing penance here.
