Dharmapuri Narasimha Swamy Temple

From the inscriptions, it is known that this temple was built in 1018 AD. This temple was demolished in 1422 - 1436 AD by the Muslim rulers. It was rebuilt in the 17th Century. Temple is located on the banks of River Godavari. Lord Yogananda Narasimha Swamy self-manifested in the form of Saligrama Sila. Rama installed Lord Siva Idol in this temple, hence the name Rama Lingeswara Swamy. This temple was built in 11th Century AD.
As per the Legend, Lord Vishnu took the form Narasimha (Human Body and Lion Face) and killed the Demon King Hiranya Kashyap. Lord Narasimha's anger didn't go down even after killing the demon. Lord Narasimha roaring in anger and roaming in the Hills and Forests. Devas, Prahalada and Saints prayed for Lord Narasimha to calm down. On their request, Lord Narasimha performed meditation here in this place in Yoga Mudra posture. Later, King Dharma Varma an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu built the temple. This temple is called as Hari Hara Kshetram.
The Temple will be heavily crowded on Nrusimha Jayanthi, Mukkoti Ekadasi (Vaikunta Ekadasi) and Karthika Pournami days.

It dates back to Dwapara Yug, King Surya Ketu who used to rule Shivapuri was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. He used to worship Lord Badrinath regularly. He is getting old and not able to travel Badrinath to worship. He prayed to Lord Siva for his inability. Pleased Lord answered him that he will appear in his area itself. King requested to Vishwa Karma to sculpture an Idol. Bhima, Pandava's brother installed the Idol. Lord appeared in his dreams that Idol is not of his and cursed King and his generations to stay away.
At the end of Dwapara Yuga when Earth filled with water, Lord Krishna sent his Sudarshan Chakra and cut the Chobhar hill so that Kathmandu will not drown. The Idol went under the Earth. The place where Idol resides is called Khaalo.

As per the Legend, Kubera did penance for Lord Siva. Pleased Lord Siva along with Goddess Parvati appeared before him. Kubera on seeing the beauty of the Goddess Parvati remained silent. One of his eyes winked at Goddess Parvati. Angered Parvati Cursed Kubera that the winked eye will lose sight and burst. Kubera pleaded Lord Siva for his mistake. Siva requested Goddess Parvati to the devotee.
Goddess blessed Kubera, that his eye will grow to a smaller size. Hence, one eye is smaller than the other. Lord Siva appointed him as a guard for North direction. Goddess Parvati appointed him as the manager for the wealth.

As per the Legend, Sati Devi Daughter of Daksha Prajapathi married Lord Siva against her father's wish. Daksha decided to perform Yagna inviting all Devas and excluded Lord Siva and Sati Devi. Sati Devi on knowing this reached her maternal home to advise her father. Daksha insulted Sati Devi in front of the guests. Angered Sati Devi raised high and immolated herself in the Yoga Agni. Lord Siva after collecting Sati's Corpse danced the dance of destruction. Lord Vishnu sent his disc and made the Sati's corpse into pieces. The body parts fell across Indian-subcontinent and emerged as Sakthi Peetas. It is believed that Sati Devi's hair had fallen here.

In the 1960s, Local noticed miracle that milk started oozing out of the Neem tree. Surprisingly, the milk tasted sweet though it is from the Neem tree.
On 28 Nov 1966, due to heavy rains, the neem tree was uprooted from it place. A swayambu Idol was found beneath the root. The devotees realised that it is because of the Swayambu the milk tasted sweet.
The devotees unearthed the Swayambu and installed Idol. on 25Nov 1977, Aadi Parasakthi Amman Idol was installed inside the Sanctum Sanctorum.

As per the folklore, An ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara used to visit Tirupati once in a year. It happened once, that he was not able to travel to Tirupati. He prayed to Lord Venkateswara for his inability. Lord Venkateswara appeared in his dream and revealed his whereabouts.

Next day, the devotee went inside the forest as instructed by the Lord. He started digging anthill in search of the Idol. The Crowbar struck an idol and blood oozing out of an anthill. The poured milk on the anthill as advised by the voice from the Sky. The devotee unearthed the Idol of Lord Venkateswara along with Sridevi and Bhudevi. This is Ekasila Idol, where all the deities present in a rock.

Chilkur Balaji Temple Pradkshinam

  2. The devotee has to perform 108 Pradakshinam when their wish is fulfilled.

This Pradakshinam was in place from 1982 -83. The temple main priest Gopalakrishna Swamy performed Pradaskhinam when the borewell is drilling. Water came out of the Earth when he completes 11 Pradakshinam.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathi. It was built by Nolamba rulers followed by Rashtrakuta kings. This temple was built in the 9th Century around 810 AD.
Gangas, Cholas, Hoyasala Kings and Vijayanagara Kings contributed in renovating this temple.
Vasantha Mantapa and Temple tank (Pushkarini) was built during the reign of Vijayanagara dynasty. It is said that River Pennar originates from this temple tank.

This temple was built during the reign of Kakatiya Kings in the 14th Century. This is the only Rama built by Kakatiya's, who are devotees of Lord Siva.

Temple construction took 100 years. Idols were installed on 15Jul 1949 from then on Pujas are performed daily. The temple structure reflects Dravidian architecture. This temple was destroyed by Allauddin Khilji in 1311 AD.
An ardent devotee of Lord Rama, Gajawada Chinnaiah installed the Idols and laid the steps path in 1949. These Idols were brought from Rajasthan.

It is believed that Lord Rama in search of Sita Devi reached this place and stayed here for 45 days. It is believed that Lord Rama met Bala Hanuman here for the very first time.

As per the Legend, Sati Devi daughter of Daksh Prajapati married Lord Siva against her father's will. Daksh thought of taking revenge on this Son-in-law and decided to perform Yagna by inviting all Devas except His daughter and Son-in-law. Sati Devi on knowing this reached her maternal home advising her father. Daksh insulted Sati in front of the guests. Sati immolated herself in the Yoga Agni. On knowing this, Lord Siva raised high and ordered Veerabhadra to kill Daksh. Veerabhadra along with Kali and other Siva Ganas reached the Yagna place and killed Daksha.
Lord Siva on collecting Sati's corpse danced the dance of destruction. Lord Vishnu to avoid destruction, sent his Discus and made Sati's body into pieces. The body parts fell across Indian Sub-continent which emerged as Shakti Peetas. It is believed that Sati's heart fell here.

This holy place was associated with the convergence of River Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.
As per the folklore, Ganga was separated from Lord Siva to facilitate Lord Siva marriage with Goddess Parvathi. Ganga reached Lord Siva here in this place.
As per the Legend, Brahma and Saraswati had a dispute and took birth in the Earth. They realized their birth secret and prayed Lord Siva for the solution. Lord Siva made Saraswati as part of the Ganga River and brought her to Koothanur as Arasalar River.
It is believed that the Yamuna was relieved from the curse on worshipping Lord Siva here.
