Bhimashankar temple Pune
As per the Legend, Lord Siva assumed the gigantic form and killed the demon Tripura. After the rigorous battle, Lord Siva, sat down, streams of sweat running down the body. The Devas and the Rishis gathered around the Lord and there ensued an unending hymn of praise and prayer. Lord Siva was pleased with their prayers and offered to grant whatever boons the devas desired. The Devas requested that he should permanently stay where he sat in his Bhima form and that the streams of sweat should turn into an eternal river. A holy dip in the river will be blessed with Good Punya. The god kept his promise and agreed to have his abode at the spot as Bhimashankar. And the river was to be known as Bhimarathi. A dip in the holy water of this river would wash away all sin and evil and bestow great good.
This temple is situated on a hill of the Sahyadris from which deep gorges descend towards the Konkan strip. This temple is not big, not larger than 45 ft x 20.
