Tiruvallur Veera Raghava Perumal Temple History

Tiruvallur Veera Raghava Perumal Temple History

Rishi Salihotrar did penance on the banks of Pushkarini for a year. At end of his Tapasya i.e Jan/Feb month, he offered Nivedana to the deity. It is a usual practice to offer food to the guest before having food. Lord in the form of an old Brahmin asked for the food. The Sage offered food which he reserved for the guest. Old Brahmin was not satisfied and asked for more. Sage gave him his part as well. Brahmin left the place after having food. The sage continued his penance without having food.
Next year, at the end of his Tapsya, sage after offering Nivedana, he was waiting for the guest. The same Brahmin asked him for the food which left Sage with no food. Brahmin then asked Sage for the space to relax. Sage offered space on his lap for sleep. Lord then laid in a reclining posture and revealed his original form to the Sage and also granted his wish, that whoever prays at this holy shrine will be blessed with good fortune.
