Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple Tirupati

Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple Tirupati

Sri Govindaraja Swamy considered to be the elder brother of Venkateswara Swamy. Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple Raja Gopuram can be seen from any distance in and around Tirupati. The Lord is found with His consorts Rukmini and Sathyabhama. Temple entrance is a seven storeyed gopuram which was built in the year 1628 A.D. To the left of the main gopuram, is a temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi who is seated on Lotus. There are shrines dedicated to Sri Andal, Sri Parthasarathi, Sri Venkateswara Swamy and Vedanta Desikar, who was a great vaishnava devotee and poet.
Another interesting fact about this temple is celestial bath (Abhishekam) will not be performed as the presiding deity in the lying position is made  of clay.
